Born in the town of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Angela and her siblings spent many hours on the beach as well as boating, water skiing and tubing on Lake Michigan. Her early interest in art was encouraged by her father’s passion for life and her mother’s own artistic talents.
Between 1997 and 2001 Angela studied painting and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Andrews University. During her last year of school, her father was diagnosed with cancer. Angela dealt with the tragic news and subsequent events by expressing her feelings on canvas. Mixed media such as nails, glass, and stones helped Angela portray her deep heartache. Birds, numbers, heaven and hell, hearts, and the city symbolized her fear of things to come. Thus began a passion for emotional reflection through art. In 2003, Angela and her husband James moved to Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a florist and graphic designer while James attended law school. She also continued focusing on fine art by exhibiting in galleries and alternative spaces while she lived in Chicago.
In 2006, after tiring of the anonymity and loneliness of a metropolis, Angela and James settled in Loveland, Colorado, a small town nestled on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. This change created the opportunity for Angela to focus solely on fine art in her downtown studio.
Angela currently is dedicated full-time to creating new works of art by delving into her past memories and experiences with her father and the immense tragedy of death. Her art has progressed to a more abstract style using figurative and experimental techniques to communicate grief. “Angela has a way of expressing raw emotion through painting that is truly refreshing,” says Holly Voget, a fellow artist from Loveland. “Her exploration of color, texture, and new techniques keeps her work alluring.”
